Eastern Spain is bracing for torrential rain and flooding, while Nepal experiences landslides and deaths due to extreme downpours. Both regions are under heightened weather-related risks.

Eastern Spain is expected to receive up to 300mm of rain, with models predicting more than 100mm across the region on Friday. Cities such as Valencia and Castelló de la Plana are at high risk, with Valencia having faced multiple damaging floods in recent years. Catalonia has placed three towns under lockdown, and Valencia has closed schools for nearly half a million children.

In Nepal, heavy rainfall last week caused 542 disaster incidents, including 304 landslides and 87 floods, resulting in 27 deaths. Dedhgaun in Lumbini province recorded 544.2mm of rainfall, and nearly a million people received flood warnings. In India, the Gandak River in Bihar reached a record water level of 91.25 metres, with 169 seepage points along its embankments repaired so far.
