Torrential rain and flash floods have caused widespread disruption in north-east Spain, with one person killed and travel disrupted across Catalonia and Valencia.
Spain's national weather agency AEMET issued red alerts for heavy rain across eastern regions, including Barcelona's coastline. Rescuers recovered the body of a man in Olivella after his car was swept away by a stream, according to authorities. Emergency services in Catalonia received over 850 calls related to the downpours and catalogued more than 500 incidents.
Neighbouring Valencia recorded more than 70mm of rainfall in half an hour, with emergency services reporting 478 incidents, mostly involving property damage and traffic disruption. In Barcelona, metro stations were closed, buses diverted, and flights delayed or cancelled at El Prat airport. A football match was also postponed due to waterlogged conditions.
