Canada Special Elections 2026: Liberal Party Wins Majority Under Carney’s Leadership

Prime Minister Mark Carney, who had led a minority government for the past year, secured a majority in the House of Commons following special elections held on Monday.

The election results shifted the parliamentary balance, enabling the government to pursue its legislative agenda with greater support in the chamber.

Analysts note that the change reduces the likelihood of frequent confidence votes and could lead to more stable policymaking, though the party still faces regional and issue-based challenges ahead of upcoming elections.
