Electricity providers in Santiago, the capital of Chile, worked urgently to restore service after a tree fell on a high-voltage transmission tower, causing a widespread outage. The incident, which occurred around midnight, left around 428,000 customers without power, equivalent to about 10 percent of the city's power demand. Enel Distribución, the country's electricity distributor, confirmed the outage and stated that they were collaborating with transmission companies to address the situation. The affected area was in the southeastern part of the city, resulting in a significant portion of Santiago's metropolitan area being plunged into darkness.
