<p>In the Bordeaux region, authorities reported the night as calm and contained several overnight flare-ups, while a fire in the area approached within six miles of a factory involved in missile construction. A French interior minister noted that two smaller fires in southern France had been brought under control.</p>
<p>In Spain, the prime minister described the battle around Madrid as evolving favorably, with firefighters tackling hot spots to prevent flare-ups amid rising temperatures. He said the next 12 hours would be decisive.</p>
<p>Some evacuations were eased as restrictions were lifted for about half of the roughly 90,000 people affected in the region. However, an eastern Spain fire near Valencia remained active overnight and uncontrolled.</p>
<p>Forecasts warned of 41 degrees Celsius temperatures and unfavorable conditions, including high winds, low humidity, and possible thunderstorms, which could trigger new flare-ups and resurgent fires. Officials reiterated continued high alert.</p>
<p>The fires come amid a broader pattern of extreme weather in Europe linked to fossil fuel use, with heat and dry vegetation increasing fire risk and contributing to the region’s largest peacetime evacuations in recent history.</p>
