Saudi Arabia Intensifies Drug Enforcement as Executions Approach Record Levels

The kingdom is experiencing a significant increase in the trafficking of amphetamines, prompting authorities to take severe measures against those involved in drug smuggling.

In response to this surge, the government has executed hundreds of individuals, a considerable number of whom are foreigners convicted of low-level smuggling offenses.

This approach has raised concerns regarding the fairness and proportionality of the punishments, particularly as many of those executed were not major players in the drug trade.

Authorities maintain that these actions are necessary to combat the growing drug problem and protect public safety.
