How to Create a Black Hole Out of Thin Air

Creating a black hole was believed to require the collapse of dead stars, but a recent Webb telescope image of the early universe suggests an alternative method. Astronomers studying a quasar called UHZ-1, which dates back to 13.2 billion years ago, believe it could be an example of a new celestial species called an overmassive black hole galaxy. This discovery challenges the traditional understanding of black hole formation and could provide insights into the origins of supermassive black holes in the universe. The finding raises questions about the early growth and evolution of black holes and their host galaxies, shedding light on the seeding physics of the universe.
