The U.S. is turning a blind eye to a troubling issue: the impact of social media on mental health, particularly among young people of different racial and ethnic backgrounds. While there is growing awareness of the negative effects of social media, there is less discussion about how usage patterns differ among racial groups. Black and Hispanic teenagers spend more time on social media than their white peers, and this usage reflects real-world disparities in access to resources and activities. The consequences of this unequal usage could exacerbate existing inequalities. It's crucial to understand and address these disparities to prevent long-term harm to America's youth.
