A new AI-powered tool aims to help small and medium-sized enterprises navigate complex trade regulations and documentation requirements as they expand internationally.
The Singapore Business Federation has launched the Trade AI Advisor, an AI-powered tool designed to assist businesses with understanding tariffs, free trade agreements, and documentation requirements as they expand into new markets. The initiative aims to address the challenges SMEs face when navigating complex trade regulations, sanctions, export controls, and customs requirements, particularly in the context of shifting geopolitical dynamics and macroeconomic uncertainty.
Developed by the Centre for the Future of Trade and Investment, the tool provides 24/7 advisory support to 30,000 companies in Singapore. It offers practical guidance on trade agreements, tariffs, market access, customs, documentation requirements, rules of origin, and manufacturing cost statements. By consolidating source-cited trade information and providing access to human expertise, the Trade AI Advisor helps businesses identify the relevant information, rules, and supporting documents that may apply before seeking further specialist advice. This is particularly beneficial for SMEs, which often lack dedicated trade and compliance teams and must manage these requirements across multiple departments.
Why it matters
Singapore Business Federation’s Trade AI Advisor combines source-cited trade guidance with human expertise, but a digital-trade agreement does not by itself establish higher exports or productivity.
