Lawsuit Claims Somali Immigrants Denied Fair Hearings in Practice

Two Minnesota-based legal groups accused the Justice Department of unconstitutionally expediting immigration cases for Somali nationals.

The groups contend that the expedited process was applied in a manner that bypassed standard legal procedures and safeguards, potentially impacting the rights of the individuals involved.

They called for closer scrutiny of the department’s practices and submission of evidence to demonstrate compliance with constitutional protections in immigration proceedings.

The assessment highlights ongoing concerns about how expedited immigration timelines may affect due process and access to legal remedies for asylum-seekers and other Somali nationals involved in such cases.
