OpenAI Says New York Times Lawsuit Against It Is ‘Without Merit’

OpenAI has responded to a lawsuit by The New York Times, claiming it is "without merit." The AI company stated it collaborated with news organizations and that using copyrighted works to train its technologies is fair use under the law. The Times had accused OpenAI and Microsoft of infringing on its copyrights by using its articles to train AI technologies. OpenAI said it looks forward to continued collaboration with news organizations and is working to address a rare bug in its technology that sometimes regurgitates articles. The Times's attorney argued that using its articles without permission or payment is not fair use.
