Jeff Zucker’s Latest Bet: Prestige TV

Jeff Zucker, former CNN president and "Today" show executive producer, is investing in Media Res, the studio behind Apple TV+'s hit show "The Morning Show." This move marks Zucker's return to Hollywood and his first direct involvement in scripted programming since the early 2000s. The investment is part of Zucker's effort to build a media empire for RedBird IMI, a venture company he founded. The deal's financial terms were not disclosed, but Zucker will join the studio's board to provide guidance. This investment follows RedBird IMI's previous ventures in sports news, documentaries, and children's entertainment. Additionally, the company is seeking regulatory approval for a takeover of The Daily Telegraph. The "Morning Show" deal reflects the ongoing demand for prestigious scripted programming, according to Zucker. The discussions for this investment began in a Midtown Manhattan club, and Zucker's involvement will allow Media Res to expand its production slate. While a fan of "The Morning Show," Zucker ruled out a cameo, describing the show as a mix of realism and fantasy.
