Over 100 Members of Gaza Clan Killed in War Nasser al-Astal, grieving after losing his wife, sons, daughters, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, and more family members in an Israeli airstrike, is struggling to cope. The death toll given by Gaza’s Health Ministry has nearly tripled, approaching 20,000. A ministry spokesman, Ashraf al-Qudra, said more than 100 people in the Astal family alone had been killed in Israeli attacks. Of 88 family members listed, 39 were children and 25 were women. Hamas lawmaker Yunis al-Astal and other family members have been casualties of Israel’s campaign to eradicate Hamas. Israel has struck over 22,000 targets in Gaza since Oct. 7. Civilians have virtually no safe places to hide or ways to escape. Israel and Hamas have been accused of violating international laws against putting civilians at "excessive" risk. The Astal family, one of the largest and most influential families in southern Gaza, has been struck at least eight times over the past two months. Before the war, there were over 100 empty plots in the family cemetery. Now, they were all full. Nasser al-Astal, who lost his wife, sons, daughters, brother, and other family members in a single night, is devastated. His stories of each family member lost are heartbreaking.
